Meta Platforms Experiences Service Outage, Disrupting Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger
Users worldwide report service disruptions on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

Gangtokian News Desk: Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Threads, encountered a widespread service disruption on Tuesday, affecting hundreds of thousands of users globally.

According to Downdetector, over 500,000 users reported outages on Facebook alone, with approximately 77,000 Instagram users and 12,000 Messenger users also experiencing service interruptions.

The outage, which began around 10 a.m. ET, prompted a flurry of reports from users worldwide. However, more than an hour later, the frequency of outage reports began to decline.

“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services,” acknowledged Meta spokesman Andy Stone in a statement. “We are working on this now.”

Reports of service disruptions were not confined to the United States but extended to users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, and various other countries.

These disruptions, while inconvenient, are not unprecedented in the digital realm. Instances of glitches, both brief and prolonged, have been known to impede users’ ability to engage in online activities, whether conducting business or connecting with friends.

Meta’s history with service outages isn’t unfamiliar. In 2021, the company faced a significant six-hour outage that affected millions of users worldwide.

Beyond the consumer-facing platforms, Meta also noted disruptions on its advertising and developer platforms, as indicated on the company’s status page.

In a lighthearted response to the outage, X, formerly known as Twitter, humorously acknowledged the situation, stating, “We know why you’re all here rn.”

Notably, Elon Musk, the owner of X, also chimed in with a characteristic quip, affirming, “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.”

As the situation unfolds, updates will be provided to keep users informed about the ongoing developments surrounding this service disruption.
