Renowned Tibetan Spiritual Leader Embarks on a Three-Day Visit

Gangtok: In a momentous occasion, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has graced Sikkim with his presence, marking his first visit to the region in 13 years. The spiritual leader’s arrival was met with enthusiasm as devotees lined the path, eagerly seeking his blessings during the three-day visit.

Warm Welcome by Chief Minister Tamang

Welcoming the esteemed guest, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed deep honor and privilege at the Libing helipad in Gangtok. CM Tamang conveyed his sentiments on social media, stating, “The presence of His Holiness brings a radiant light of wisdom, compassion, and peace to our land, enriching our hearts and minds with His profound teachings and exemplary guidance.”

Gracious Reception by Tibetan Representatives

Tibetan representatives, including Korchen Rinpoche, Lachung Rinpoche, and Gonjang Rinpoche, joined Chief Minister Tamang and government officials to extend a gracious reception at the Libing Army Helipad. Monks from various Sikkim monasteries added to the spiritual ambiance with a traditional Buddhist ritual of dance and prayer known as ‘Sherbang.’

Spiritual Energy Charges the Atmosphere

As His Holiness departed for Denzong Regency, devotees lined up along the path, eager to catch a glimpse and seek his blessings. The Dalai Lama received a traditional Chema reception ritual at a local hotel in the capital, followed by a guard of honor by the Sikkim Armed Police.

Teachings and Foundation Stone Laying

On December 12, His Holiness will impart teachings on Gyalsey Thokme Sangpo’s 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. Additionally, he will virtually lay the foundation stones for the Karmapa Park project at Rumtek and the Gyalwa Lhatsun Chenpo Statue project at Simmik Khamdong constituency, Gangtok district.

Historical Ties and Contributions to Peaceful Coexistence

The historical ties between the Dalai Lamas and Sikkim trace back to 1642 AD when the fifth Dalai Lama recognized the first king of Sikkim. This relationship has played a pivotal role in protecting Sikkim from invasions and contributing to peaceful coexistence.

His Holiness’s past visits to Sikkim have involved teachings on Buddhist principles, initiation ceremonies, and contributions to the preservation of Tibetan Buddhism. The Dalai Lama’s emphasis on love, compassion, and human values resonates deeply with Sikkimese devotees.
