Ravangla, Sikkim — The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Sikkim marked its 7th convocation at Buddha Park, Ravangla, highlighting academic excellence and the institution’s progress.
The event saw Governor Om Prakash Mathur as the chief guest, alongside retired Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Chancellor of Assam University, as the guest of honor. Ramesh Kumar Saraogi, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, presided over the ceremony.
Encouragement for Future Innovators
Governor Mathur urged graduates to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship, aligning their aspirations with India’s vision for 2047. Stressing the significance of integrity and resilience, he motivated students to contribute meaningfully to society.
“Nurturing self-belief and upholding values of integrity and courage are crucial for shaping a progressive nation,” Mathur remarked during his address.
Retired Air Chief Marshal Raha echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of ethical leadership and commitment to national development.
Institutional Progress and Achievements
Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, Director of NIT Sikkim, highlighted milestones achieved by the institute over the past year. He announced plans to relocate to the permanent campus in Dung Dung, Khamdong, within the next three to four years, aiming to enhance academic infrastructure and resources.
Board Chairperson Saraogi emphasized the role of science and technology in addressing global challenges, urging graduates to contribute to advancements that honor the nation’s rich heritage.
Recognizing Excellence
This year, NIT Sikkim awarded 144 BTech degrees, alongside postgraduate and doctoral recognitions, including one MTech, nine MSc, one Post Graduate Diploma, and four PhDs.
Anirudh Ghildiyal and Arpit Paul from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering received the Institute Gold Medal and the Director’s Gold Medal, respectively, for their outstanding performance. Six Department Gold Medals were also distributed, celebrating academic achievements across disciplines.
A Vision for the Future
Renowned attorney Nand Gopal Khaitan, honored with the D.Litt. degree, shared his optimistic outlook on the transformative potential of India’s youth. “The future lies in the hands of those who are willing to innovate and lead,” he remarked, inspiring graduates to take bold steps in their professional journeys.
The convocation reaffirmed NIT Sikkim’s dedication to fostering academic and ethical excellence, preparing students to address the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
